Comms-Online,
Ireland's first independent communications and consulting brokerage
house in Dublin, today announces that it was retained by the
Guinness
Enterprise Centre to provide evaluation on the installation of
broadband connectivity for its 65 client companies in the city
centre incubator.
Following an independent evaluation process, Eircom was selected
as the Centre's telecommunications partner.
Originally, the Centre was equipped with ISDN lines but as traffic
increased across the client companies, this has proved to be an
expensive option for some of the larger clients. "There is a direct
correlation between rising traffic and falling economies," says
John O'Grady, operations director of Comms Online. "The original
solution had proved an excellent entry level for the Centre but
the rising traffic meant it was time for the Centre to move to leased
lines."
The Centre opted for Eircom's 2Mb leased line option. The solution
is always on - 24 hours a day and 7 days a week - which suits the
many start-ups operating in the Centre, as there is now a fixed
cost per month for their connectivity requirements. In excess of
€30,000 was also spent on telecommunications equipment allowing
companies to access the service without having to purchase their
own routers.
"Comms Online not only offered independent advise in this evaluation
process, but is also a client of the incubator centre," explains
John McInerney, General Manager of the Guinness Enterprise Centre.
"The merit behind their company, now one year old, was their ticket
to obtaining a location in the Centre. That same merit proved very
helpful for us in our evaluation process in choosing a communications
partner.
"We have a wide range of companies located in the Centre, but there
is one common trait - use of telecommunications," says McInerney.
"With this solution, we can offer discounted access, eliminate expensive
connection charges, reduced capital expenditure and lower ongoing
costs."
Already, with the leased lines only going live last week, 0.9M/bits
of the total 2.0Mb has been taken up and McInerney believes it will
be October before this has to upgraded again, possibly to 4Mb. "The
next time round we may even consider installing a mixture of wireless
and fixed line solutions to provide fail safe solutions for our
companies".
Comms Online offers corporates and SME's the ability to compare
telecommunication prices and service levels available in Ireland.
The company also offers expert consultancy on focused aspects of
telecommunications, up to and including advice on bandwidth, hosting,
and managed services.
Comms Online has two main areas of business. The first is under

ability to broker the best telecommunications deal possible for
their customers. The offline consulting service is tailored to meet
